There's only one place in the world where you can sample fish eyes and venison tongue  and finish off the meal with a wasp larvae ice cream. The 24th annual Wildfoods Festival kicks off tonight in Hokitika.
There's already been a recipe contest with a Possum & Prune Rillette with Toasted Sourdough taking out first prize.
Besides the unusal food, there are more tame and traditional offerings amoung the 63 stalls. Mike Keenan is the Wildfoods organiser.

4:06 On The Panel today are Mark Inglis, home from his customary globe-trotting, and David Slack. Auckland's gridlock yesterday, what caused it? Yes, a car running up the back of a truck or whatever, but why does once road accident paralyse traffic across much of a large city? Speed cameras - former police accident inspector and now road safety consultant, Hamish Piercey was saying on yesterday's Panel that the cameras slow traffic down only temporarily and they're not a wider safety device. Today the police will defend them and their locations. The terrible slaughter of the elephants in Africa for the Chinese consumer market, and other topics - assorted - as time allows.
