Laura Dekker was just 10 years old when she first began preparing to sail around the world by herself. Born on a yacht in Whangarei, raised in the Netherlands, she would have to battle Dutch authorities, who thought she was too young and the journey too dangerous..before battling with the sea.
Last January she became the youngest person to sail solo around the world at the age of 16 years and 123 days. She's now 17 and ready for a new challenge. Dekker is going to sail into Auckland's Maritime Museum Marina on Monday where she and her yacht Guppy will take up residence for the next year.
