The emperor penguin dubbed Happy Feet that arrived on the Kapiti Coast a week ago is recovering after a two hour operation at Wellington Zoo this morning. The penguin survived two attempts at the weekend to clear sand from its body after it was taken to the zoo from Peka Peka beach on Friday in a critical condition.

Plunket books, used by parents for decades to record the development of their young children, could be phased out by technology. Plunket is planning to give nurses and volunteers tablet computers to record details from home visits. Parents could then log on to a secure website to find out about their child's development. Brenda Hynes is Plunket's national clinical adviser.
2.25 Moose in Fiordland
For sixty years Fred Stewardson from Northland has kept secret four photos he took of moose in Fiordland. Fred took the photos on a hunting trip to Wet Jacket Arm in 1953, but his hunting companion told him to keep the pictures secret. The snaps include the only known picture of a group of three moose - a bull, a cow and its calf. Moose chaser Ken Tustin from Bull Creek, near Milford is delighted with the photos.
