The US military has raised its alert level across Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands as tensions escalate in the Middle East following American strikes on Iran.
Joint Region Marianas confirmed it has increased its Force Protection Condition (FPCON) from Alpha to Bravo as a precautionary measure, citing a general rise in vigilance under Department of Defense security protocols.
While officials stressed there is no specific threat to the region, base personnel and visitors can expect heightened random anti-terrorism measures and possible adjustments to access procedures.
Normal operations will continue under FPCON Bravo guidelines.
The move comes as US's Pacific territory leaders with strong military ties voiced support for service members deployed overseas.
Northern Mariana Islands US Congress delegate Kimberlyn King-Hinds said global instability is deeply personal for small island communities.
"As a representative of a US territory in the Indo-Pacific, I understand firsthand that global instability is not abstract for us. It is personal," she said.
"When tensions rise involving Iran, communities like ours immediately think about the safety of our service members and their families. Many of them come from small island communities like ours. We know their names. We know their parents."
"In moments like this, we stand united behind the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and remain committed to protecting American lives while pursuing strength, stability, and peace."
Guam delegate James Moylan said he is closely monitoring developments following US military action and retaliatory activity in the region.
"As a veteran, I know that moments like this place tremendous weight on the shoulders of the men and women who serve.
"My prayers are with all of our service members currently deployed, especially the sons and daughters of Guam who are stationed in the region and standing watch on behalf of our nation," he said.
Moylan added that the safety of US forces "must remain the highest priority" as his office continues to seek information on the administration's strategy in the days ahead.
