The Solomon Islands Pidgin Language Week kicked off in New Zealand on Sunday.
The theme for this year is "Protektim langguis an kalsa blong yumi", which translates to "Protect our language and culture".
In a video message to mark the start of the final language week series, Minister for Pacific Peoples Dr Shane Reti said Solomon Islands is the home of dozens of languages.
"We heard from communities that Solomon Islands pidgin is the language that unifies everyone," he said.
"This is the second time this language has been part of the Pacific Language Week programme and I am so excited to be celebrating with out Solomon Islands community."
Secretary for Pacific Peoples Gerardine Clifford-Lidstone said Solomon Islands has more than 70 indigenous languages and dialects, but pidgin is the most common language spoken among Solomon Islanders.
Youth member of Solomon Islands Auckland Wantok Association Liana Sabetian said speaking pidgin everyday is very important because it is a reminder of where she came from.
Solomon Islands Pidgin Language Week runs until Saturday.
