Samoa's capital hit by flooding

7:55 am on 7 January 2021

Samoa's capital, Apia has again been hit by flooding as more rain is forecast.

Talamua online says some areas around Apia yesterday were inaccessible to low vehicles as water levels increased after several hours of rain.

The Land Transport Authority had warned motorists returning home from work to take alternative routes for safety.

The main business centre in downtown Apia started flooding at 4pm yesterday as water levels kept climbing.

Businesses that suffered from the impact of the floods of last December (18/12/2020) were hit again yesterday.

The latest weather forecast predicts heavy rain for this morning.

The Samoa Meteorology Office said flood risk is high for all catchments and rivers, particularly Upolu island and north facing rivers.
