Covid infections in French Polynesia continue to soar

The Covid-19 pandemic in French Polynesia is continuing to infect dozens of people each day, with another 124 cases reported in the past two days.

1852 cases have been reported in total.

1790 of those came after the borders were reopened and mandatory quarantine requirements were abolished in July, in order to boost tourism and revive the economy.

The government said 341 cases were active.

25 people are now in hospital, including seven in intensive care.

Last month in French Polynesia seven people with Covid-19 died.
