RNZ Pacific has been forwarded a copy of the Tanna MP Robin Kapapa's letter of resignation he tendered to prime minister Bob Loughman, which gave no reason for his departure.

Mr Kapapa, who was the Leader of Government Business, is the second MP to cross the floor in less than a week, following Torres MP Christophe Emelee's departure.

The opposition, led by Ralph Regenvanu, now claims to have 24 of the parliament's 52 members in its ranks.

The government, however, says its ranks remain stable and told the Daily Post, after the loss of Christophe Emlee, it had the numbers to prevent a motion of no confidence. With 28 seats, it now has one less.
