Most of French Polynesia's firefighters have taken to the streets in Papeete to demand better conditions.

About 150 of them joined the march to the assembly, seeking more recognition for their work.
They say they want their status within the administration upgraded as they have been left on low pay.
They say as a consequence, recruitment suffers, and are warning that understaffing could ultimately pose a risk to the population.
