The latest case brings to 16 the total of confirmed measles cases in the territory, which has continued stringent travel restrictions to combat the spread of the disease and to counter the threat of the coronavirus.

Health officials told a Cabinet meeting the new measles case is a 24-year-old woman, who was born in American Samoa and only had one of the two required shots of the MMR vaccine.

She spent four days but has since been released.

The woman has no history of travel outside of the territory and therefore is considered a locally transmitted case.

Meanwhile, American Samoa still has no cases of the coronavirus, although two local residents who returned from China remain in 14-day quarantine at the Leone Health Clinic.

Both are considered low-risk of having contracted the coronavirus and are expected to be released this week.
