Authorities in Papua New Guinea's capital say there is extensive damage from flooding caused by the breach of a reservoir earlier in the week.

Relief Web reports that Port Moresby's 14-Mile area was hit by flash flooding after heavy rain and the opening of the reservoir floodgates on Mt Eriama.

No casualties were reported at press time but there was extensive damage and losses to properties reported in the area.

Among facilities damaged are Livestock Development Corporation infrastructure, a Philippines government-funded rice field and the Sogeri Road.

Moresby's popular Adventure Park was also damaged - but the wildlife park's management says that all animals are now safe, including birds.
