American Samoa Congresswoman Aumua Amata Radewagen has asked an American brewery to stop selling a Bikini Atoll-themed beer.

The Manhattan Project Beer Company released a drink named Bikini Atoll in July, sparking what the Nuclear Commission says is outrage in the Marshall Islands.

The request followed criticism of the Manhattan Project Beer Company by the Marshall Islands government, for not consulting Bikinians before launching the product.

The company said it had received death threats over the beer, named Bikini Atoll, but denied it was trivialising nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands.

Incumbent Congresswoman Aumua Amata is seeking a second term.

Adding to the pressure, Aumua wrote to the company on Monday asking it to pull the drink, which she said was "hurtful".

"I strongly support the sense of dismay expressed by the government of the Marshall Islands regarding an insensitive portrayal of the Bikini Atoll," Aumua, who is also Marshall Islands citizen, wrote in the letter.

It was shared on Facebook by the Marshall Islands' Health Secretary, Jack Niedenthal.
