The Minister of Health said it was critical to curb the increasing illicit trade and ensure such products are imported legally.

Ifereimi Waqainabete said there was a rise in sales of single cigarettes and products like shisha and e-cigarettes coming into the country through courier agents.

A new cross ministry policy to cut out illicit tobacco is being introduced, he said.

The World Health Organisation is supporting Fiji's moves to strengthen tobacco control.
