7:42 am on 7 June 2019

Four Samoan police officers have left the country to begin peacekeeping duties in war-torn Darfur, in Western Sudan.

The four, including a woman officer, will be on a 12 month mission.

The contingent continues the Samoa police's contribution to United Nations peacekeeping missions which started in 2000 with a deployment to East Timor.

Samoa's first mission to Sudan was in 2017 with a contingent of six officers.
