The two largest players in the Northern Marianas' hospitality industry want more government oversight over bed and breakfast establishments.

This comes after a worker died last week in an apparent gas explosion at Sea Fun Villa, which operates as a BnB.

Ramoncito Apostol died after receiving burns to 70 percent of his body.

In September 2017 a Chinese visitor, Dan Liu, drowned in the same facility's swimming pool.

The Marianas Visitors Authority, and the Hotel Association, both said such establishments must comply with all the laws that are imposed on hotels, especially to do with visitor safety and paying taxes.

The agencies said the accidents adversely affect the image of the Northern Marianas.
