The long-delayed recount of the Chimbu provincial seat from Papua New Guinea's 2017 election is reportedly nearing completion

The recount commenced last month in Goroka in neighbouring Eastern highlands province due to security fears in Kundiawa.

From February 6th, the court gave the Electoral Commission 51 days to compete the recount

However protests and security concerns over the counting venue have delayed the process.

But the commission has indicated it expects to complete the process by the first week of April.

It said the recounting is running smoothly, and police have not reported any major election related violence.

The recount is the result of a successful election petition by candidate and former Chimbu Governor Noah Kool against the incumbent MP Michael Dua.
