FBC news reported 36 cases of meningococcal C were confirmed in Fiji last year with another 10 probable infections and 39 suspected cases.

Six people died from the disease, including five children under the age of five.

The health minister, Ifereimi Waqainabete, said the aim of the vaccination programme, which finished in October, was to vaccinate 309,145 children.

He said 100 percent of school children have been vaccinated but nine percent of under-19-year-olds have yet to receive a jab.

Mr Waqainabete said the ministry will continue to provide vaccinations to all children from the age of one and all those who are eligible.
