6:08 pm on 10 December 2018

Ninety-five percent of the critical infrastructre on the Northern Marianas island of Tinian has had its power restored, nearly six weeks after Typhoon Yutu hit, the utilities provider says.

However, the Tinian airport remains offline as crews from the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation (CUC) focus on getting homes reconnected to the power grid.

Last week, the CUC said 63 percent of neighbouring Saipan had had its power restored.

Saipan's shelteree population is also down to 156 people from a high of nearly 1000 immediately after Yutu.
