Tahiti dance proposed for UNESCO heritage

French Polynesia has advanced its bid to make the 'ori tahiti traditional dance part of UNESCO's world heritage.

A government delegation has visited Paris for talks with the French culture ministry, which is to vet and support the application.

Earlier this month, French Polynesia's assembly approved a resolution to endorse the campaign.

A decision on what applications France will submit to UNESCO will be made by President Emmanuel Macron.

A UNESCO team was in Papeete this month to hand over a certificate recognising Taputaputatea marae in Raiatea as France's 44th UNESCO world heritage site.
