Three Pacific Island locations are to be considered for World Heritage status by a United Nations committee.
In a statement from its headquarters in Paris, UNESCO says the upcoming World Heritage committee meeting will look at the potential of nearly fifty sites around the world.
Among them are the ancient farm site at Kuk in Papua New Guinea and the chiefly domain of Roi Mata in Vanuatu.
Both are being considered because of their cultural importance in the region, and a World Heritage listing would be the first for either country.
Also the committee will examine the French proposal to list the large lagoon and reef system of New Caledonia.
UNESCO meets in the Canadian city of Quebec on the 2nd of July.
