An magnitude 6.6 earthquake has struck east of Kira Kira in the Solomon Islands.

There was no immediate tsunami threat or reports of damage or casualties from the quake, which hit at a depth of 33 km about 161 km east of the provincial capital.
People in the capital Honiara spoken to by RNZ Pacific said they didn't feel the quake.
