The territory's elections were postponed for a week, after the devastation wrought by Typhoon Yutu earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the clean-up on the islands of Tinian and Saipan, which bore the brunt of the category five storm, is continuing apace.

Authorities said power has been restored to many towns, and all of Tinian has had its water service restored.

The airport on Saipan is due to fully reopen to tourist flights on Thursday.
