Papua New Guinea police say they are confident 39 prisoners who escaped from Lakiemata prison in West New Britain will be recaptured soon.
Provincial commander, Superintendent John Midi, said officers were working around the clock in efforts to recapture the men who escaped last Sunday.
In total 43 inmates got away while travelling to a church service.
Three were shot dead by prison guards and one surrendered voluntarily.
Superintendent Midi has appealed to the surrounding communities to help with the recapture.
He said the escape was properly planned with the prisoners using sharp implements such as knives and screw drivers to threaten the guards.
