The 19th South Pacific Nurses Forum and AGM is being held in Rarotonga.

It will include nurses from New Zealand, Australia and around the Pacific.

The chair of the Cook Islands Nurses Association, Ngatamariki Manea, said the theme of the meeting is 'Transforming Leadership: Nurses as Change Agents for Non Communicable Diseases in the Pacific'.

The threat posed by NCDs is growing in the Pacific and Ms Manea said the nurses will be encouraged to take the lead in combatting it.

"And to lead by example to be full partners with other health professionals in re-designing and advancing health care to address the challenge of NCDs," Ngatamariki Manea said.
