The court in Paris has confirmed Sylvain Brial in the seat after rejecting a challenge by Napole Polutele who alleged irregularities in the April by-election.

Last year, Mr Brial had lost the regular election but subsequently challenged the winner, Mr Polutele.

In February, the court upheld Mr Brial's complaint and Mr Polutele lost his seat, which led to the April by-election and Mr Brial winning the Paris seat.

Mr Polutele was first elected in a by-election in 2013 after the previous year's election winner David Verge was found to have produced flawed campaign accounts.

Mr Verge was subsequently banned from holding public office for one year, but was later elected as the new president of the Wallis.
