The light aicraft, owned by private charter Dimonim Air, went missing on Saturday and its wreck was found near Oksibil on Sunday.

Two pilots and six passengers died in the accident, while 12-year-old Jumaidi, who like many Indonesians goes by only one name, survived.

His uncle Gandi told the Jakarta Post Jumaidi was saved because his father held him in his arms.

Jumaidi is reportedly in a stable condition with only minor injuries.

The bodies of all eight victims have been recovered and an investigation is underway into the cause of the crash.

Among the dead was Papua New Guinea pilot Leslie Suvuve.
