Fiji court hands out light fine for Chinese construction company

A Chinese company has been fined just under $US5000 by a Fiji court for environmental breaches.

The company, China Railway First Group, was convicted of undertaking unauthorised developments.

It had constructed an asphalt plant and access road at Davuilevu without an approved Environmental Impact Assessment Report.

The Nausori Magistrates Court convicted and sentenced the company to a fine of $US730 dollars.
