The leader of French Polynesia's Tau Hota Rau party has been declared ineligible for a year.
Tauhiti Nena was found to have failed to comply fully with the rules governing campaign financing when he ran for a seat in the French National Assembly last year.
The decision by the French constitutional court is of no consequence because Mr Nena didn't get elected.
His party also failed to win a seat in this year's territorial election.
The ban will expire before the municipal election in 2020.
Mr Nena, who is a former minister, is the third candidate to be sanctioned.
