Local media says Tonga police minister has resigned

There are unconfirmed reports from Tonga that the Police Minister, Mateni Tapueluelu, has resigned.

The prime minister's office said it was still waiting for formal confirmation of the minister's move and will not comment until it has received that.

But local media have announced that the minister has resigned, though no reasons have been given.

Mr Tapueluelu, a former journalist, is the son-in-law of Prime Minister 'Akilisi Pohiva.
