Reports from French Polynesia say a man has been detained suspected of being linked to three women caught with methamphetamine on arrival at the international airport in Tahiti last month.

The three had been found to be acting suspiciously at the border control and a scan at the hospital revealed they had smuggled about 260 grams of the drug in packs in their private parts.

La Depeche de Tahiti said the detained man was suspected of buying the drug in the US and using the trio to import it into French Polynesia.

It said he had just returned from the US and wanted to collect the drug.

The reports said one of the women is a 66-year-old, while the other two are in their forties.
