There has been another major seizure of cocaine in New Caledonia.

The French navy intercepted a yacht in New Caledonia's exclusive economic zone last week and found 578 kilogrammes of the drug onboard.

According to the public prosecutor, three people have been detained for questioning.

The Nouvelles Caledoniennes reports the drugs have been destroyed.

In July, the French navy intercepted a yacht off Tonga with one-point-four tonnes of cocaine.

The four on the yacht, who were from Latvia and Lithuania, will be tried next month.
