American Samoa police officer faces corruption charge

A police officer in American Samoa has been charged with corruption.

Officer Faauma Malo, who only graduated from the local police academy in June was arrested on Friday for allegedly coercing money from a motorist.

He is being held in the Territorial Correctional Facility with bail set at $US5000.

It is understood Mr Malo is one of several officers under investigation for alleged corruption offences.
