A senior French government representative has praised French Polynesia for its efforts to produce renewable energy.
Sebastien Lecornu, who is the secretary of state for technological transition, said 34 percent of energy used was from renewable sources, almost twice the rate of France.
French Polynesia wants to raise this to 50 percent by 2020 while France's target is to source half of its electricity needs from non-nuclear sources by 2025.
Speaking in Tahiti, he also said President Emmanuel Macron would visit French Polynesia during his five-year term, but gave no further details.
Earlier, Mr Lecornu visited Wallis and Futuna which hopes to increase the production of renewable energy to 100 percent by 2050.
Today only 3.5 percent is from renewable sources.
