The two leaders declined to say what was discussed except to confirm they had agreed to proceed with the talks next month.

According to a release from Tuilaepa's office, outstanding issues to be addressed include trade and economic integration, agriculture, immigration, health, education, transport, telecommunication and tourism.

Samoa remains optimistic that American Samoa will assist with a request to the United States Department of Agriculture to certify two mobile abattoirs and the soon to be built permanent and Central Abattoir expected to open up the US meat markets via American Samoa.

A taro ban imposed by the territory still remains in place despite Samoa officials supplying lab test results from Germany clearing Samoan taro from any threatening disease.
