American Samoa church pledges help for drug fight

The leader of the Catholic Church in American Samoa has offered support for the territory's efforts to combat a growing illegal drug problem.

The bishop has written to the Governor Lolo Moliga commending his move to control the proliferation of drugs.

He said with 18 parishes and five schools the Catholic Church was very much aware of the amount of illicit drugs available to young people in American Samoa.

Bishop Brown pledged the church's assistance to a government task force and he suggested churches work together to help the government stamp out drugs.
