Flooding and landslides in French Polynesia's Marquesas Islands have caused nearly US$1 million worth of damage.
Three families on Nuku Hiva, the largest of the islands, had been evacuated from their homes near an insecure bank.
The mayor of Nuku Hiva, Benoit Kautai, told Tahiti-Infos rain had been persistent off-and-on for four months, which has caused extensive damage.
Mr Kautai said land was saturated and there were landslides right across the archipelago. Roads and crops had been destroyed.
He said it would take about 100 million French Pacific francs, or about US$1 million, to rehabilitate the lost infrastructure.
