People in American Samoa are this week celebrating 100 years since scientists first surveyed one of the territory's coral reefs.

The corals off the village of Aua have been the subject of what's thought to be the world's longest running survey.
A marine biologist Alice Lawrence at the Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources said the reef had attracted scientists from around the world every year since 1917.
She said they will survey the reef again this week.
"We met with the village chiefs and they're very excited, very proud that they're hosting this event. We're going to be working closely with them, involving community members and getting them in the water and showing them the reef and teaching them more about it."
