The leader of French Polynesia's Tahoeraa Huiraatira Party has called on Tahitians to rally behind Marine Le Pen in this weekend's French presidential election, saying she is the only one with a programme for the territory.

Gaston Flosse has described her rival Emmanuel Macron as the choice of the losers, he said Macron might be elected by default and not because of conviction as his policies were nothing but air.

Flosse said Ms Le Pen had formally engaged herself for the plans of his party which was to turn French Polynesia into an associated state of France.

In last month's first round of voting in French Polynesia, the most successful candidate was Francois Fillon whose result was his best of all electorates.
