American Samoa's Congresswoman has praised President-Elect Donald Trump's announcement that he plans to withdraw the United States from the Trans Pacific Partnership, or TPP.

Aumua Amata said the TPP was bad news for American Samoa from the start,
She said almost more than any other industry, the TPP negatively affected the fishing industry in the United States and American Samoa and would have opened the floodgates for illegal and unregulated seafood from nations which pay their workers a fraction of what cannery workers in American Samoa are paid.
Aumua said it would have also had negative environmental repercussions by allowing these nations which have been accused of using slave labour on their boats to fish unchecked while American Samoan fisherman, who are responsible stewards of natural resources, sat at the dock.
