A global engineering consultant has confirmed that it has terminated its contract with the Fiji Roads Authority, following the unexplained deportation of two of its workers.
MWH Global, now operating as part of Stantec, said last week it had not been told why two foreign workers were deported, but confirmed it has a dispute over pay with the Roads Authority, dating back to March.
In light of the deportations, the company moved many other foreign workers off Fiji this week.
The MWH Global Managing Director for Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, Mark Bruzzone, said the contract was terminated this morning.
He said the company had been meeting its obligations to all staff and clients, and that he was disappointed to bring the relationship to an end.
The move may leave more than 100 staff out of a job, although Mr Bruzzone said the company was hoping to continue its operations in Fiji.
The director of immigration, Nemani Vuniwaqa, told Fiji Village he could not explain the deportations and has directed MWH Global to contact 'higher authorities' for an answer.
