Fiji government moves to assure cyclone victims

Fiji's Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar, has moved to assure cyclone victims they will be provided with the materials they need to rebuild.

The government introduced its Help for Homes programme six weeks after the devastating cyclone hit in February but a shortage of supplies has meant many of those affected are still not able to fix up their homes.

Ms Akbar said 23,300 people across the country had received the assistance of up to US$3400 on prepaid electronic cards for use at certain hardware stores.

On a tour of the Western Division last week she said the government was working with the hardware companies so that they could provide the materials.
