Virgin Australia plans to recommence flights to Vanuatu's Bauerfield Airport in Port Vila once it has made an independent assessment and is confident it's safe.
On Virgin's website, the carrier is taking bookings for flights from May the 23rd.
Those flights will be subject to the independent assessments, and Virgin's confidence that the runway will be appropriately maintained.
However Qantas, which suspended its codeshare deals with Air Vanuatu earlier this year, says a long-term solution must be established before it reinstates the deals.
Air New Zealand has not responded to requests for comment but earlier this month also said it would not resume commercial flights until the major redevelopment deal, funded by the World Bank, is fully designed and contracted.
The Vanuatu government remains set to deny an Air New Zealand request to land a charter flight at the airport tomorrow, saying it's inconsistent with the airline's stance on commercial flights.
