Papua New Guinea has indicated its assistance to Tonga will go mainly towards upgrading facilities at the Teufaiva stadium to standards required for the Pacific Games.

Radio Tonga Prime minister Akilisi Pohiva told parliament this morning the assistance will cover the renovation of the stadium to ensure it has the capacity to host national, regional and international events.

The prime minister said this was confirmed by PNG's sports minister, Justin Tkatchenko, who has just completed a visit to Tonga, after Mr Pohiva visited PNG last month seeking aid for the Games in 2019.
