Sport: Fiji netball looking to the future

12:36 pm on 2 December 2015

Fiji netball is looking to the future after a busy 2015.

The Pearls hosted the Silver Ferns in Suva in January, won gold at the Pacific Games and finished a disappointing 11th at the World Cup in Sydney.

Next year is looking quiet on the court, with no Pacific Series scheduled until 2017.

Head coach Kate Carpenter says that gives them a chance to focus on bringing through the next generation of international players, with the next Youth World Championships in Botswana on the horizon.

"We're into year one of another four year cycle. While it's been some downtime for most of the squad - apart from the girls who will be travelling overseas - we've got a development programme underway for preparing the 19s and our 21s - that age group for the 21sand also succession planning for the Pearls".
