The no confidence motion against the Solomon Islands prime minister Manasseh Sogavare has been withdrawn by the leader of the opposition Jeremiah Manele, despite a judicial challenge against it being struck out.

Parliament has confirmed the only matter left on today's agenda is to resume briefly for the sitting to be formally adjourned.

The opposition's decision to drop the motion also follows Wednesday's swearing-in of seven new ministers from the independent group who had joined Mr Sogavare's government.

Last week, Mr Sogavare lost seven ministers who resigned.

The motion tested the new Political Parties Integrity Act which regulates the administration and membership of political parties while having no sway over the movement of individual MPs.
