The executive director of Papua New Guinea's electricity provider says he believes the company can meet a government target to have power in 70 percent of all homes by 2030.

John Mangos says PNG Power Limited has the experience to connect most households, but it needs to refresh its skills and refocus.

He told the newspaper, The National, that only about 10 percent of homes in the country have electricity.

Mr Mangos says PNG Power would have to connect about 55,000 households a year to meet the target.

He says the company is recruiting lines staff and working to resolve issues around materials, vehicles and safety in order to increase the number of connections.
