CNMI resort pay woes affect staff

Employees of Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino in the Northern Marianas say they weren't paid their salary last week.

Several staff, who want to remain anonymous, say they feel bad that their employer has failed to remit their salary, adding that they desperately need the money to pay bills and buy food for their family.

This comes shortly after the US Department of the Treasury Financial Crimes Enforcement Network fined the resort owners, Hong Kong Entertainment Overseas Investments, 75 million US dollars for willful and egregious violations of the Bank Secrecy Act earlier this month.

This is not the first time that employees of Tinian Dynasty cried foul over not getting their salary.

In June 2013, staff called local newspapers to complain about the non-payment of their salaries, which at that time stretched as far back as nine payrolls.
