Northern Marianas on cyclone watch

The Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas is on typhoon watch as tropical storm Dolphin is expected to become a typhoon and hit the group by Friday.

The National Weather Service has urged residents of Ulul in Chuuk State in the Federated States of Micronesia, and residents of the Northern Marianas to carefully monitor the progress of the tropical storm.

As of yesterday Dolphin was packing maximum sustained winds of 89 kilometres per hour, and slowly intensifying.

Last night the eye of the storm was 370 kilometres north of Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia, according to the United States National Weather Service in Guam.
