The Reserve Bank of Fiji is calling for a policy shift from the Data Bureau towards a positive focus of consumers' credit behaviour.
The Data Bureau collects credit details on individuals and businesses in the country but is not regulated by the Reserve Bank of Fiji.
The Fiji Consumer Council recently accused the agency of breaching the constitution and violating the privacy rights of consumers by selling their private information without their knowledge.
The call comes after concerns were raised about the consumers' right to have their credit records erased from the Data Bureau system after their arrears were settled.
The RBF governor Barry Whiteside wants to see the Data Bureau record credit history of consumers based on full reporting which will also take into account their positive credit history.
Mr Whiteside says a positive stand would ensure fair and equitable reporting.
The Fiji Times reports the Data Bureau's general manager Delores Elliot says they would consider positive reporting if their members are willing.
