CNMI resolution opposes military use of Pagan

The speaker of the Northern Marianas legislature is to introduce a joint resolution opposing using the island of Pagan for US military activities.

The Marianas Variety reports Joseph Deleon Guerrero's resolution requests Governor Eloy Inos opposes any military use of Pagan.

He will also introduce another resolution expressing support for the position of the Governor and the Commonwealth Ports Authority that Tinian should be the sole location of the proposed US military expansion in the CNMI.

The House Minority Leader Ramon Tebuteb described the proposed military use of Pagan as a compelling and sensitive issue.

He says local people need to see both sides of this issue, including the impact on the tourism industry, as well as the investment benefits from military activities.
